Last night I concluded my 15-day Juice Diet journey and it feels good to go back to normal life, almost. The next few days I need to ease back into my normal diet, with slowly introducing animal-based fats and proteins otherwise I could shock my body and get sick if I go at it at once. Juice Fast Days 11-15 is a complete package with a number of advantages.
Day 11-15 Summary
The last 5 days felt just normal, I was cruising much easier than before especially compared to my initial days. My cravings had completely subsided, and I was feeling lighter and “cleaner” by the day, despite the fact that my muscles felt a bit sore due to lack of protein. I am sure that I lost some muscle weight.
Juice Fast Recipe
I started the fasting on Sept 1st weighing 231.2 lbs, and ended up at 220 lbs. A loss of 11.2 lbs in 15 days. Furthermore if I were to account for the week prior where I simply introduced juicing but without removing solids from my diet, I lost 3 lbs there. So my total loss is 14.2 lbs in 3 weeks. Not bad eh? The wife says that I look 10 years younger, and I do feel lighter and healthier, and I dropped down to size 38 from 40.
Lessons Learnt, and Next Steps
My sister Cynthia who’s a yoga teacher and life coach asked if I would go vegetarian after this juicing, and my answer was that I greatly enjoyed this type of dieting, however I’m going back to consuming animal-based proteins!
I indeed felt the amazing benefits of being on a purely raw vegan juicing diet for 2 weeks, however to be honest it did not feel normal to me. Let alone the initial 5 days of cravings that I had, as things eased out later, not having proteins from dairy and animals did not feel right. Perhaps it’s our conditioning and a life-long diet of proteins from animals, however I do also believe that our bodies were created to accommodate a balance from many food sources, and not just raw greens.
So my personal conclusion is that I would continue with my regular diet, however I would dramatically reduce processed foods and sugars and starches, and would increase my intake of fresh veggies and fruits. That I will definitely try to do. How to do that? By simply not buying that stuff when I’m at the supermarket. if I don’t buy it, it won’t be around at home for consumption.
What I noticed after the diet is that my desire for junk food has greatly disappeared. My friend Derrick who just introduced Juicing with his regular diet noted on the other hand that his cravings for coffee went down after several days of juicing. Good things happen.
Would I keep juicing moving forward? YES!! I recall that the week prior to my official fasting I simply juiced along with my regular meals and I lost 3 lbs in that one week with absolutely no effort. When I would have the juice prior to lunch, it made me feel fuller and I naturally ate less. So the end result was getting a good boost of micro-nutrients from the juice as well as regular proteins/carbs from my normal food while losing weight effortlessly. Juicing along with my regular diet would help me maintain a regular detox while getting enough nutrients from vegetables and fruits.
Finally, I feel very grateful that I went on this juicing experience for one more reason. It really made me connect with the less fortunate, and with populations who are undergoing famine. It made me feel what it is like to be hungry and to sleep on an empty stomach (relatively speaking). May God make it easy on everyone who’s suffering from malnutrition and hunger, and may God inspire us to do our part in helping them out.
As for our friend Lino, I haven’t heard from him in a few days I hope he is ok.
